Follow the three-step ruler:<\/span><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>1. Signal must be \u201cjust right\u201d \u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u2013 Stand beside the main router: 4 bars \u2192 too close. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u2013 Stand in the dead room: 1 bar \u2192 too far. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u2013 Walk back until you drop to 3 bars (about \u201365 dBm in most phones). \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0That is the sweet spot: strong enough to feed the repeater, weak enough that the amplified zone actually covers new ground.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>2. Stay within five metres of where you sit \u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0A repeater has tiny antennas. After it re-broadcasts, the signal still has to reach your phone, TV or laptop. Brick or stud walls eat another 3 dB each; steel wardrobes eat 6 dB. Put the unit on the bedroom side of the doorway, not in the corridor behind the boiler.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>3. Give it clean power and air \u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u2013 Wall socket only \u2013 no extension leads full of phone chargers. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u2013 Keep 10 cm clearance on every side; inside a cupboard the radio overheats and throttles. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u2013 Do not share the double socket with a kettle or microwave; both create electrical noise and heat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Pro tip: COMFAST repeaters (CF-XR185 V2, CF-WR773BE, etc.) store the login credentials in flash.
