Shennan Circuits Dormitory WiFi Coverage Case

Project Background

This solution serves Shennan Circuits Co., Ltd., with implementation at the employee dormitory buildings within the Gaoqiao Industrial Park, Pingdi Subdistrict, Longgang District, Shenzhen. The dormitory area comprises two buildings, each 10 stories high, with 15 to 20 rooms per floor. The project requires comprehensive, stable, and high-performance wireless network coverage for approximately 300 rooms in total, meeting the daily internet needs of the enterprise’s staff.

Core Challenges Analysis

1. Coverage Penetration in Complex Environments: The dormitory buildings feature a dense, multi-compartment layout with numerous wall partitions, demanding excellent signal penetration and coverage capabilities from the wireless equipment.

2. Stability Under High-Concurrency Access: Employees’ schedules are synchronized, leading to peak usage periods (e.g., evenings) with a high volume of connected devices. Access Points (APs) must support high-concurrency access to ensure smooth, stable connectivity for multiple devices simultaneously without lag or disconnections.

3. Intelligent Bandwidth Management: Given limited overall bandwidth, traffic control functionality is essential to allocate network resources rationally, preventing specific applications or users from excessively consuming bandwidth and degrading the overall experience.

4. Network Security Management: As an extension of the enterprise internal network, it is crucial to ensure network security, guard against cyber attacks and unauthorized access, and protect employee privacy and corporate data.

5. Centralized Device Operation & Maintenance: The solution must support configuration, monitoring, and management of all APs across the network via a unified platform, reducing the complexity and cost of ongoing maintenance.

6. Scientific Deployment for Interference Mitigation: The dense room environment requires high precision in AP placement. Careful planning of installation locations and channel assignment is needed to minimize co-channel interference and ensure signal quality.

COMFAST Dormitory Wireless Coverage Solution

Deployment Plan

1. Coverage Method Selection: Ceiling-mounted Wireless APs are deployed for coverage. This method offers flexibility, ease of installation, effective coverage, aesthetics, and simple maintenance, making it highly suitable for multi-room environments like dormitories and hotels.

2. AP Selection and Placement: COMFAST Ceiling APs (Model CF-E350N) are selected for their high transmission power, high client capacity, and broad coverage range. On each floor, based on the layout, 1 AP is deployed on the ceiling in public areas serving every 2-3 dormitory rooms, achieving a cellular layout of approximately 6 APs per floor to ensure seamless, dead-zone-free signal coverage.

3. Power Supply and Networking: PoE Switches (Model CF-S180P) are used to provide remote centralized power to APs via Ethernet cables, simplifying cabling and enabling plug-and-play operation. A total of 20 PoE switches are deployed for this project.

4. Centralized Control and Management: One COMFAST Core Gateway (Model CF-AC400) is configured for unified management of all network APs. This gateway can manage up to 1000 APs and supports 1500 concurrent users. Paired with the OrangeOS, it enables seamless roaming, load balancing, behavior management, and comprehensive security protection.

Core Solution Advantages

1. High-Speed, Stable, Full-Coverage Experience: Through precise AP placement and the AC+AP networking architecture, combined with seamless roaming, load balancing, and intelligent traffic control technologies, the solution delivers continuous and stable wireless access to every room, even during peak usage hours.

2. Unified Management and Multi-Layered Security Protection: The central gateway enables one-stop device management, significantly improving operational efficiency. The system integrates multiple authentication mechanisms, dangerous application identification, URL filtering, and attack defense features, creating a secure and reliable enterprise-grade network environment.

3. High Cost-Effectiveness and Scalability: The solution design balances advanced technology with economic feasibility. The selected equipment offers diverse form factors and flexible configuration, allowing for cost optimization based on actual site conditions. The system architecture provides excellent scalability, allowing ample room for future network expansion and feature upgrades.

4. Intelligent Optimization and Reliable Assurance: Specifically optimized for wireless environments, the solution supports application identification and traffic control, enabling effective network resource management to ensure smooth operation of critical services. The system also offers high reliability, meeting the long-term stable operational needs of the dormitory buildings.
